WordPress offers a handy "Press This" bookmarklet that streamlines the process of writing a blog post about an article on another site. When reading something you'd like to link to, you click the bookmarklet, and a New Post window opens up with the title filled and a link in the body. If you select text on the page before clicking the bookmarklet, the selected text will be included in a blockquote in the body.

Similar functionality can be achieved with the Prepopulate module alone. QuickPost Bookmarklet adds an admin frontend to this that allows you to customize how your bookmarklet will work.

Installation

Install the module normally. It relies on the Prepopulate module, so enable that as well.

Usage

The only functionality in the module is in the Configuration > Content Authoring > QuickPost Bookmarklet page (admin/config/content/quickpost_bookmarklet). There are only three options to set:

• Content type that should be created by the bookmarklet
• Template to use for the title when using the bookmarklet
• Template to use for the body when using the bookmarklet

Set these three fields (or leave the default values) and click the Generate Bookmarklet button. The script will generate the Javascript for the bookmarklet and make an Ajax request to the Google Closure Compiler service to compress that generated code so that it can be used for the bookmarklet.

Once the new bookmarklet appears on the right side of the form, just drag it into your bookmark toolbar. When you're reading an article or page that you'd like to share on your site, select some text on the page (if you want to quote it) and click the bookmarklet to open a new window to your site's admin.

Additional Options

7.x-1.1 added a couple of additional options that you may specify if you so choose:

• Open In: Choose whether to open the node add page in a pop-up, or full window (which, depending on browser settings, may be a new tab for you).
• Bookmarklet Label: Specify the text for the bookmarklet, so you don't have to edit the bookmarklet after dragging it to your bookmark bar.

Maintenance

As of December 23, 2012, I'm marking this module as seeking a co-maintainer, and getting maintenance fixes only. I don't have any clients using this module any more and no longer have time to keep working on it like I once did.
